Bruges brewery Bourgogne des Flandres opens its doors to the public
Meet the brewer and blend your own Bourgogne des Flandres

Thanks to Anthony Martin the Bourgogne des Flandres beer is brewed within the city walls of Bruges again since November last year. Now that the restoration work on the historic building in the Kartuizerinnenstraat has been completed, the Bourgogne des Flandres brewery is open to the public every week from Tuesday to Sunday. Visitors can witness master brewers Edward Martin and Thomas hard at work. During the 40-minute guided tour one can explore the brewery, discover the ingredients and the brewing process. The visitors will be pleasantly surprised by the aroma of malt and fresh hops in the attic of the brewery. Groups can book a blending workshop as an extra. During these sessions visitors can learn how to make their very own version of Bourgogne des Flandres. Thanks to the central location and the stunning view of the Bruges canals, the Bourgogne des Flandres brewery is probably the most romantic brewery in the world.
The Bourgogne des Flandres brewery welcomes beer lovers from all over the world to watch the brewing process from nearby during the interactive, family-friendly guided tour. They can meet the master brewer, who is always happy to answer any questions related to the brewing process. When the master brewer is adding hops to the wort, the fine aroma of fresh hops will surprise the visitors.
Children can visit the brewery free of charge and try and find the little mole that pops up in every room. In the interactive room you’ll learn how to tap a beer, send e-cards to your friends and family, or take home a bottle of Bourgogne des Flandres with your own picture on it at the end of the visit.
Everything in the brewery is explained in Dutch, French, English and German. Subtitles to videos are available in Italian, Spanish, Russian and Japanese for groups.
The blending session can be booked as an extra for groups (min. 20 people). A beer connoisseur explains in detail the different flavour components of Bourgogne des Flandres and how the beer is made. Armed with that knowledge, it is up to the visitors to blend their own version Bourgogne des Flandres. An experience never to forget.
The brewery building also houses a restaurant. Here one can enjoy delicious and genuine Belgian cuisine with a stunning view of the canals of the ‘Venice of the North’.
Bourgogne des Flandres occupies a very special place in the Belgian beer landscape. It is a typical example of the Flemish beer blending tradition with old and young beer being mixed judiciously to achieve a perfect balance. Bourgogne des Flandres Pure, a brown top-fermented beer, is brewed on site in the attic and blended with lambic from Timmermans Brewery. This lambic has aged for over twelve months in wooden barrels. This spontaneous fermentation beer of the world’s oldest lambic brewery gives the Bourgogne des Flandres a fresh, tangy note. The result is a surprising red-brown beer with a low alcohol content and a very rich finish. The ideal aperitif beer.
